Odense Boldklub has dismissed head coach Alexander Zorniger after just 14 months in charge, citing collaboration difficulties and a lack of support for the club's strategic direction. Zorniger, who signed a three-year deal when appointed on May 31 last year, guided the side to an eighth-place finish last season before being let go following just one match of the current campaign.
The dismissal comes after Zorniger publicly questioned the club's top-six ambitions and called for reinforcements following a 1-0 defeat to Viborg. Sports director Troels Bech, who previously worked with Zorniger at Brøndby from 2016 to 2018, said the challenges the coach presented ultimately outweighed his contributions.
The club, which has fired 11 head coaches since the Superliga's inception in 1991, scheduled a press conference for Thursday at 15:00 to announce the next steps. Tipsbladet reports that Thomas Thomasberg is set to take over.
