Nintendo reported a 53.5% jump in first-quarter profit, beating analyst estimates as robust software sales and a roughly $300 million refund on U.S. tariffs offset a decline in hardware shipments.
Net profit reached 147.4 billion yen ($933 million) for the April–June period, while operating profit soared 150.5% to 142.6 billion yen. Revenue dipped 9.5% to 517.8 billion yen. Switch 2 hardware sales fell 34.4% to 3.82 million units, though software sales rose, led by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream with 7.94 million copies sold. The tariff refund followed a U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down duties imposed under the Trump administration.
Nintendo maintained its full-year forecasts, projecting net sales of 2.05 trillion yen and 16.5 million Switch 2 units for the year ending March 2027. Shares rose 2.9% in Tokyo trading following the results.
