Czechia's mushroom season has effectively ended, with conditions so poor that foraging yields are unlikely to recover for the remainder of the year, according to mycologists.
Jan Borovička of the Czech Mycological Society said mushrooms are not growing and will not return at least through the end of summer, calling the situation the worst in recent years. A weak flush of fungi has been limited to areas with heavier rainfall, such as the Ore Mountains and the foothills of the Giant Mountains. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute's mapping shows the probability of a full basket is low to very low across most of the country at the midpoint of summer holidays, with the best chances confined to mountains in northeastern Moravia, Silesia, and parts of the Šumava range.
In the Polabí lowlands, foragers have reported rare finds of heat-loving boletes known locally as "colourful" mushrooms.
