Milan prosecutors have requested the dismissal of sports fraud charges against Gianluca Rocchi, the former Serie A and B referee designator, concluding a two-year investigation found no evidence of match-fixing. The inquiry examined referee appointments in four matches, including a Torino-Inter fixture from the 2025-2026 season, amid allegations that Rocchi had steered assignments to favour Inter Milan. Magistrates determined there were insufficient grounds to prove a structured system of manipulation, and the simultaneous case against Inter has also been dropped.
Rocchi, who suspended himself in April 2025 after being placed under investigation, is not entirely clear of scrutiny. Case files have been forwarded to sports justice authorities and the Italian Olympic Committee's General Prosecutor to assess potential disciplinary breaches. A separate strand concerning alleged interference with VAR decisions during a Udinese-Parma match in March 2025 has been transferred to prosecutors in Monza.
