Human rights organisation FairSquare has lodged a formal complaint with the International Olympic Committee against FIFA president Gianni Infantino, alleging he violated political neutrality regulations through his interactions with US President Donald Trump.
The ten-page complaint identifies five distinct violations of IOC rules, including the handling of US player Folarin Balogun's suspension. His one-match ban was suspended by FIFA's disciplinary committee after Trump telephoned Infantino, allowing Balogun to play in the World Cup. Another alleged breach involves promotion of a FIFA fan website linked to a data-collection campaign tied to Trump-aligned entities.
FairSquare submitted a comparable complaint to FIFA's ethics committee in December 2025. The Norwegian football federation and fifty European Parliament members have since called for examination of the allegations. IOC president Kirsty Coventry has confirmed the ethics commission will review the complaint.
