Italy's Supreme Court of Cassation has annulled the conviction of former parliament speaker Irene Pivetti for tax evasion and money laundering, ordering a retrial at the Court of Appeal in Milan.
Pivetti had been sentenced to four years in a September 2024 first-instance ruling, confirmed on appeal in December 2025. The case centres on the alleged sham sale of three Ferrari Gran Turismo cars to Chinese group Daohe in 2016, which prosecutors say was used to conceal unpaid taxes. The court also maintained a seizure of more than 3.4 million euros linked to the case.
The defence, led by lawyer Filippo Cocco, successfully argued for the appeal to be reheard before a different section of the Milan court. The former lawmaker has consistently maintained her innocence.
