Málaga claimed the Costa del Sol Trophy on Wednesday following a chaotic conclusion to a 2-2 friendly draw against Fulham at La Rosaleda stadium, where the English side left the pitch before a planned penalty shootout and Eneko Jauregi scored into an empty net to seal the result.
The drama began when Fulham goalkeeper Calvin Bassey was penalised for a late handball, allowing Jauregi to convert the spot-kick and level the match at 2-2 in the 90th minute. Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa and his assistant were both sent off after the final whistle for protesting the decision. Fulham's players then departed the field, with the club stating that no penalty shootout clause existed in the match agreement and citing a scheduled flight departure.
Ryan Sessegnon and Alex Iwobi had scored for Fulham, while Chupe and Jauregi replied for Málaga, who open their LaLiga campaign away at Atlético Madrid. Fulham begins its Premier League season against Chelsea on 24 August.
