A large fire involving approximately 50 tonnes of household waste broke out at a recycling facility on Landmann Way in Deptford on Tuesday evening, prompting a major emergency response with 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters.
First calls came in shortly before 8 p.m., with crews from East Greenwich, Old Kent Road, Deptford and surrounding stations attending the blaze. The smoke closed an overground line into central London and blocked rail lines between New Cross and London Bridge, with Southeastern services disrupted and passengers advised to add 30 minutes to journeys between London Blackfriars and East Croydon.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. A similar blaze at the same facility in June destroyed a van and a car, marking the second significant fire at the site in under three months.
