Over 100 firefighters were deployed on Saturday evening to battle a large blaze affecting a house, gardens, sheds and a railway embankment in Walthamstow, east London. The London Fire Brigade received the first of more than 100 emergency calls at around 18:30 BST, dispatching 25 fire engines and approximately 125 crews from stations including Tottenham, Bethnal Green, Walthamstow and Chingford.
Residents in the surrounding area have been urged to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke. Two rest centres were established for displaced residents, and the Weaver Overground line has been partially closed as crews work near Vallentin Road. Local MP Stella Creasy described the incident as a major event.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities said.
