A local train struck logs and branches deliberately placed on the tracks at a railway crossing in Ølgod, western Denmark, early on Sunday morning, prompting a major police investigation into suspected sabotage. No one was injured and the train did not derail when it hit the obstacles at the Østerbro and Storegade crossing at 7:15 a.m. on July 19, 2026.
Police have launched a wide-ranging investigation using dogs, drones, forensic analysis, witness interviews and CCTV footage to determine who placed the timber on the line. Deputy Chief Inspector Søren Theilgaard Rønnow said authorities are treating the incident very seriously and have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage from the area between 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday.
Rail operator Go Collective cancelled services between Skjern and Varde and replaced them with taxis while the line remained closed.
