A 55-year-old musician was found dead and a female colleague left fighting for her life in a suspected carbon monoxide poisoning incident at a hotel in central Perugia, Italian authorities confirmed.
Paolo Coluzzi, a Sicilian-born, Rome-based member of the Orchestra delle cento città, was discovered unresponsive in the room. The 56-year-old woman found alongside him was transferred to a hyperbaric centre in Ravenna in critical condition. The alarm was raised when fellow orchestra members failed to see the pair arrive for a scheduled performance at the Sala dei Notari with a group of around 40 musicians.
Firefighters detected carbon monoxide concentrations across multiple floors of the building. The hotel has been evacuated and seized by judicial authorities, and an autopsy on Coluzzi's body has been ordered.
