Italian Member of the European Parliament Ilaria Salis has been ordered to pay more than €300,000 in damages to two former aides the Milan Labour Court found she dismissed without just cause. The ruling, filed in March 2026 by judge Franco Caroleo, was made public on July 22.
The two aides were terminated without notice in early 2025, although their contracts ran through July 2029 with monthly salaries of €2,900 and €3,000. The court awarded roughly €148,000 to one aide and €153,000 to the other, plus legal costs. Salis, an MEP for the Left Alliance Greens grouping, did not appear during the first-instance proceedings.
Salis has appealed the verdict, saying she never received notification of the original case and was therefore unable to mount a defence.
