A High Court judge in Dublin has calculated that Enoch Burke owes €208,268.18 in outstanding fines for repeatedly trespassing at his former workplace, Wilson's Hospital School in County Westmeath.
Mr Justice Brian Cregan set out the total fines accrued at €273,200, stemming from a daily penalty of €700 first imposed in January 2023 and later doubled to €1,400 in December 2024. That sum was reduced to account for roughly €65,000 collected by a court-appointed receiver and the courts service from Burke's salary. Burke, who appeared via videolink, has spent more than 700 days in prison over the contempt.
The dismissed teacher was recently ordered released from Castlerea Prison but still faces a disciplinary hearing from the Teaching Council. Burke was sacked from the school in May following a dispute originating in 2022.
