Two Irish brothers have been sentenced for the sexual assault of teenage girls who were babysitting their children in the 1990s, with the victims aged between 14 and 17 at the time of the offences.
Martin Owens, 66, was sentenced on Sunday to five years and six months in prison, with the final six months suspended, after pleading guilty to multiple counts of sexual assault involving two victims between 1994 and 1996. His brother John Owens, 72, was jailed for eight years in February after admitting nine counts of sexual assault against three girls between 1992 and 1996. Both men entered their pleas at the Central Criminal Court.
John Owens offered €20,000 to each victim as a gesture of remorse. The assaults took place in counties Westmeath and Dublin while the teenagers were caring for the brothers' children.
