Irish man jailed for 10 years over rape of estranged wife

Joseph Jessop has been sentenced to a decade in prison for the rape and oral rape of his estranged wife, Tracey Jessop, after she waived her right to anonymity so the attacks could be publicly detailed.

The judge set a headline term of 11½ years before reducing it to 10 for mitigating factors. The convictions stem from two assaults in February and March 2021, along with an earlier incident of assault causing harm in November 2020.

All three offences involved the couple's marriage. Tracey Jessop's decision to forgo anonymity — a legal protection routinely granted to complainants in sexual-offence cases — allowed the court to name Jessop openly throughout the proceedings.
