Iran-backed Houthi rebels said they carried out a drone strike on a strategic target at Najran airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia, with the group's military spokesman Yahya Sarea saying the attack successfully hit a sensitive military site. Regional sources said the airport's main radar installation was struck. Saudi Arabia has not confirmed the attack or commented.
Sarea framed the strike as retaliation for Saudi drone flights over the Houthi-held Yemeni provinces of Saada and Hajjah, near the Saudi border.
The incident comes amid escalating hostilities after the Houthis declared a naval blockade on Saudi shipping in the Red Sea late last month. Riyadh responded by forming a multinational maritime coalition in late July to secure Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait shipping lanes.
