More than 620 earthquakes have rattled Spain's Granada province since Aug. 14, with about 20 additional tremors recorded on Thursday alone after the magnitude 5.0 shock that struck Saturday.
The Government of Andalusia has inspected 580 buildings, classifying 459 as safe, 105 with minor issues, and 14 in the red category indicating serious damage. Roughly 600 residents were evacuated from six structurally compromised buildings in Gójar and Las Gabias. The region's two strongest quakes, both magnitude 4.8 on Aug. 15 and Aug. 18, were felt in more than 500 towns across central and eastern Andalusia, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid.
The Alhambra and Generalife have partially reopened, and provincial health services have returned to normal operations. Granada Mayor Marifrán Carazo expressed hope that daily life would normalize in the coming days. Andalusia maintains the pre-emergency phase of its seismic risk plan.
