German unemployment crosses 3 million mark in July

Germany's unemployed population surpassed 3 million in July, reaching 3.007 million as the jobless rate climbed 0.2 percentage points to 6.4 percent, the Federal Employment Agency reported. The unadjusted figure rose by 71,000 from June and stood 28,000 higher than in July 2025. Seasonally adjusted unemployment edged up by 6,000 compared with the previous month.

The agency registered 653,000 open positions nationwide, alongside 1.108 million recipients of unemployment insurance benefits and 3.775 million citizens eligible for basic income support.

In Berlin, unemployment rose to 10.4 percent, while Thüringen recorded a 6.5 percent jobless rate with 71,152 people out of work. On the apprenticeship market, 437,000 training positions had been posted against 418,000 applicants, leaving 162,000 slots still unfilled.
