A 33-year-old German man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his girlfriend after her body was discovered in southern Sweden, following a weeks-long search that began when she was reported missing in late July.

Swedish authorities issued a European arrest warrant for the suspect on Friday, and he was detained the same day near his residence in the Karlsruhe district. He remains in pre-trial custody. The Karlsruhe Public Prosecutor's Office and Heilbronn Police Headquarters said they suspect the man killed the 29-year-old woman from Heilbronn.

The couple had been holidaying together in the Kalmar region of Sweden in July. A woman's body showing signs of violent death was found in Kalmar in early August and was later conclusively identified as the missing 29-year-old.
