Police in northern Germany are investigating a suspected violent crime after a hunter discovered a human torso wrapped in plastic film in a forest near Flensburg on Tuesday afternoon.

The body was found in a wooded area in Glücksburg, a town roughly 10 kilometres northeast of Flensburg in Schleswig-Holstein and close to the Danish border. Investigators suspect a violent crime took place, though the victim's identity remains unknown.

On Wednesday, a large contingent of officers — including criminal police from Flensburg, technical specialists and around 40 readiness police from Schleswig-Holstein — combed the area for evidence. An autopsy was scheduled for later in the day. Authorities have appealed for witnesses who may have seen suspicious individuals or vehicles near the Friedholz forest and Pugum lake.
