A Dresden court on Friday sentenced Susann E. to a two-year suspended sentence for supporting the National Socialist Underground, a far-right terrorist cell responsible for a string of murders across Germany.
The Higher Regional Court found the 45-year-old guilty of supporting a terrorist organisation in three instances and of aiding aggravated extortion with weapons in one case, wrapping up a trial lasting more than eight months. Prosecutors had sought four years in prison, while the defence argued for acquittal. The court handed down a sentence well below the prosecution's demand.
Prosecutors accused Susann E. of lending her identity documents — including an ID card and health insurance card — to convicted NSU member Beate Zschäpe, and of helping rent a motorhome used in the group's final robbery in 2011. Susann E. remained silent throughout the proceedings. The verdict is not yet final. She is married to André E., who was convicted in 2018 as an NSU supporter.
