Four suspects aged 22 to 28 have been arrested in connection with the murder of former two-weight world boxing champion Zolani Tete, following his fatal shooting outside his home in Mdantsane on Friday evening.
A 22-year-old man charged with murder and attempted murder is due in court on Monday, while three others arrested Sunday will appear on Tuesday. Two suspects face additional charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The 27-year-old woman wounded alongside Tete remains hospitalised.
Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie said South Africa had lost one of its finest fighters. Tete, who held a Guinness World Record for the fastest title-fight knockout, had recently completed a four-year doping ban that ended in July. South Africa records an average of 58 homicides daily.
