FAA proposes inspections of 453 Boeing 737 MAX jets over seat mounting concerns

· Business USA

The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed an airworthiness directive covering 453 U.S.-registered Boeing 737 MAX aircraft after receiving information that passenger seats may not be properly secured to cabin floors.

The directive, announced July 27, 2026, calls for inspections of seat track installations across the affected fleet. Each 737 MAX can have up to 69 seat units mounted on rails, and correcting each unit is expected to take one labor hour without requiring replacement parts. The inspections are estimated to cost $2.7 million across the fleet.

Boeing notified operators about the seat installation issue in December 2025, months before the FAA issued its proposed safety directive.
