The European Parliament overwhelmingly approved a sweeping update to air passenger rights on Tuesday, capping more than a decade of negotiations with a 646-to-12 vote.
The reform preserves existing compensation levels for flights delayed beyond three hours — €250, €400, or €600 depending on distance — while requiring airlines to inform passengers of their compensation rights within four days of a disruption. Passengers will also be entitled to delay payouts for cancellations made less than 14 days before departure or denied boarding. Under the new rules, carry-on luggage must be included in the ticket price, and children under 14 must be seated next to a guardian at no extra cost.
