DNA testing has confirmed that a charred body discovered in a vineyard in Saint-Gilles, southern France, belongs to Sonia Bellina, a 29-year-old social media influencer who vanished overnight on 10–11 August, Nîmes prosecutor Cécile Gensac confirmed on 19 August. An agricultural worker found the unclothed remains on 12 August; an initial autopsy could not establish identity, requiring genetic analysis.
Two men have been detained and placed in police custody on suspicion of involvement in the killing, the prosecutor's office said. Bellina had told her sister she was meeting someone she had been seeing the night she disappeared, and a suspicious vehicle was reported that evening.
Bellina had built a combined following of roughly 400,000 across TikTok and Instagram. Her family has denounced online rumours and offensive commentary circulating on social media, and lawyer Mourad Battikh has warned of legal action. The case comes as France recorded 79 femicides through mid-July, according to the #NousToutes collective.
