Czech opposition parties have called on Motorists for Themselves MP Filip Turek to surrender his parliamentary seat and step down as government commissioner for climate change after his Mercedes G-Class collided with a hospital transport vehicle in central Prague on Monday.
Civic Democratic Party leader Martin Kupka called Turek an "arrogant boor" who should lose his licence, while Mayors and Independents chief Vít Rakušan demanded an immediate resignation, calling his conduct reckless on the road and in politics. The Czech Pirate Party's Zdeněk Hřib said Turek had no place in public office, and TOP 09 urged his removal from all functions. Mayors and Independents caucus chair Michaela Šebelová said Prime Minister Andrej Babiš should dismiss Turek from his climate post if he refuses to step down.
Turek, who excused himself from lower-house proceedings citing health reasons, tested negative for alcohol. Police are reviewing camera footage and interviewing those involved.
