Czech lawmaker Filip Turek has ruled out a personal run for president ahead of the country's next presidential election, scheduled for early 2028. Speaking on CNN Prima News on July 11, Turek said he is not considering a candidacy for the post.
Incumbent President Petr Pavel signalled in April his willingness to seek a second term, saying at Mendel University in Brno that he saw no other candidate he would rather vote for. Former Defence Minister Jana Černochová, appearing in the same CNN Prima News debate, expressed her support for Pavel and criticised Turek's Motorist party for damaging foreign policy and clashing with the president.
Turek also said his party is watching Andrej Babiš to ensure he continues to govern successfully, though the Motorists had previously walked back an earlier pledge to "watch" Babiš, saying they now focus on monitoring the government's programme compliance.
