A coordinated wave of drone strikes hit Sudan's capital Khartoum and two northern cities early Wednesday, shattering months of relative calm in a city the army recaptured last year. The attacks began around 05:00 local time and targeted Khartoum, Atbara, El-Damer and the city of El-Obeid, with explosions also reported near the Wadi Seidna military base on the capital's outskirts.
Sudanese News newspaper reported that four suicide drones struck military and civilian sites across central Sudan. No immediate casualties have been reported.
The assault marks the most significant breach of Khartoum since the army retook the capital in March 2025, a victory that prompted roughly 2.3 million displaced people to return. The civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo has raged since April 2023, with aid workers estimating more than 200,000 people killed across the country.
