A 17-year-old London schoolboy has died while snorkelling during a school camping trip to Lake Malawi, local authorities said.

Eugene Enoch Kwon, a student at Hampton School in south-west London, went missing on Tuesday in Cape Maclear, Monkey Bay. He was later found underwater by divers following an extensive search. The cause of death was determined as suffocation due to drowning.

The Malawi Police Service is investigating the incident. The death comes weeks after another London pupil, 18-year-old Umar Dumbuya, died on June 30 after entering the River Wye during a Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition in Wales. An inquest into Dumbuya's death has been opened.
