The body of Luigi Cavallari, the 84-year-old husband of Italy's Family Minister Eugenia Roccella, has been recovered from Lake Vico, ending a search that lasted more than five weeks. Roccella announced the discovery on Facebook on Tuesday.
Police divers located the body at a depth of roughly 18 metres, with firefighters also taking part in the recovery operation. Cavallari had been missing since 27 June after diving into the lake. According to the Ansa news agency, he resurfaced and said he felt unwell, but the boat he had dived from was not anchored and drifted away.
The Viterbo prefecture coordinated continuous search efforts from the day of his disappearance. Prosecutors in Viterbo have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
