An Australian federal court has unanimously rejected an appeal by Pauline Hanson to overturn a finding that she racially discriminated against Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi. The Full Federal Court panel of three justices upheld the original decision on Sunday, ruling that none of Hanson's grounds for appeal had been established.
The case stems from a September 2022 social media post in which Hanson told Faruqi to "pack your bags and piss off back to Pakistan." Justice Angus Stewart found in 2024 that the post contained an anti-Muslim and Islamophobic message and constituted seriously offensive and intimidating behaviour. The appellate court agreed with Stewart's characterisation that the tweet was a variant of the slogan "go back to where you came from" and implicitly targeted Muslims.
Hanson said she intends to take the matter to the High Court of Australia. Her appeal to the Full Federal Court was launched in November 2025.
