Venus and Serena Williams played their first doubles match together since 2022 on Monday, falling 6-2, 1-6, 10-8 to American Peyton Stearns and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk in the opening round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, an event carrying $7.433 million in total prize money.
The 1-hour, 19-minute contest marked the sisters' first joint appearance since their loss to Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova at the 2022 US Open. Venus Williams, 46, and Serena Williams, 44, have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals as a team.
Serena Williams confirmed the Cincinnati outing does not signal a permanent return to doubles competition. She recently made a singles comeback at Wimbledon, where she lost in three sets to Maya Joint. Serena Williams holds 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
