Firefighters are battling a grassfire on Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh after crews responded to reports of the blaze at around 18:30 on Sunday. Six fire engines were deployed to the hillside, where large areas of vegetation below the cliff face were burned. No casualties have been reported, though Queens Drive remains closed and the park is off-limits to pedestrians and vehicles.
Assistant Chief Officer Jon Henderson said crews will likely remain on scene for several days damping out hotspots, and urged the public to avoid barbecues and open flames. The cause remains under investigation.
The Edinburgh fire coincides with a major wildfire in Cairngorms National Park that has burned roughly six and a half square kilometres since Wednesday. Hundreds of firefighters and helicopters have been deployed there, and evacuated residents have begun returning to collect belongings. The Ski Road and surrounding areas are expected to remain closed for some time.
