A wildfire in Germany's Müritz National Park has scorched more than 370 hectares of forest, authorities said on Friday, after the blaze erupted on July 13 on a former military training ground. Some 400 emergency responders, reinforced by crews from Bavaria, Brandenburg and Saxony, are battling the flames, though exploding munition remnants from the Second World War and the East German era force firefighters to maintain a safety perimeter of roughly one kilometre. Two Bundeswehr CH-53 helicopters began drawing water from surrounding lakes on Friday morning, though they cannot fly directly over the fire zone due to the ordnance risk. Several lakes — including the Pagel, Dambeck and Granzin lakes — have been closed to recreational use to serve as water sources. The village of Granzin remains evacuated, with residents unable to return. The fire did not spread further overnight into Friday, and the cause remains unknown.
