American forces struck approximately 140 Iranian military targets with precision munitions, military officials said, marking the third wave of U.S. strikes against Iran this week. More than 300 targets have been hit across three consecutive nights of operations.
Among the sites struck was a military base in the Iranian city of Khondab. Iran retaliated by launching rockets and drones at U.S. units and bases in Qatar and Oman, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked facilities at the Omani port of Duqm. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed until further notice, according to Tehran.
Despite the escalation, an Iranian delegation met with American counterparts in Oman on July 11 and agreed to continue peace negotiations. The conflict began on Feb. 28 with joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. A preliminary peace framework agreed on June 17 included an Iranian pledge to allow free transit through the strait for 60 days.
