The Trump administration announced new restrictions on imports of advanced humanoid and quadruped robots, as well as connected power inverters, targeting products made primarily in China. The Federal Communications Commission unveiled the measures on Tuesday, saying they aim to protect the U.S. artificial intelligence supply chain from risks including data theft and cyberattacks. The ban applies only to models not yet released and does not affect previously authorised products already on the market. The restrictions also cover foreign-made inverters used in data centres and solar energy grids — a sector dominated by Chinese manufacturers such as Sungrow Power Supply and Huawei. The Chinese embassy in Washington opposed the measures, accusing the U.S. of politicising trade and imposing sanctions on groundless pretexts.
