The UK government will invest more than £250 million over three years to deploy over 500 additional police officers across England and Wales to protect Jewish neighbourhoods, schools, synagogues and community centres.
The package includes roughly 300 new officers in London and 80 in Greater Manchester, with £43 million directed to forces in other areas with significant Jewish populations. The Metropolitan Police will receive £86 million from the funding, with a further £59 million allocated to counter-terrorism policing.
The announcement follows a string of violent incidents, including the stabbings of two Jewish men in Golders Green in April and an arson attack on four Hatzola ambulances in March. A car ramming and stabbing outside a Manchester synagogue last October killed two people. Britain raised its national terror threat level to severe in May.
