Retail sales volume across the UK increased 1% month on month in June 2026, with year-on-year sales climbing 4.2% as warmer weather and a shift to online shopping lifted spending. June was the second warmest on record for the UK, a factor cited alongside consumer habits moving back toward digital channels.
The share of online sales reached 29.4%, its highest level since April 2021, while non-store retailers recorded a 4.4% surge. Clothing and footwear stores saw a 1.9% monthly increase, driven in part by heatwave demand. Department stores, however, declined 1.7% and household goods outlets slipped 0.6%.
Motor fuel sales dropped sharply over the second quarter, offsetting some of the broader retail gains.
