UBS posts higher second-quarter profit and unveils new share buyback programme

ZURICH — UBS Group reported net profit attributable to shareholders of $2.8 billion for the second quarter of 2026, up 17% from a year earlier, as its wealth management and trading divisions drove strong growth. Revenue for the quarter rose 13% to $13.7 billion, while first-half net profit reached $5.84 billion, a 43% increase over the same period last year.

Global Wealth Management, the bank's flagship division, attracted $36 billion in net new assets during the quarter, pushing total client assets to a record $7.3 trillion by the end of June. The investment bank's revenue climbed 26.5% year on year, with trading activity doubling operating profit to $1.1 billion. The bank also reported cumulative gross cost savings of $12.6 billion from its integration of Credit Suisse.

UBS announced a new share repurchase programme, targeting at least $1 billion in buybacks over the next three months and up to $3 billion by mid-2027. The Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio stood at 14.4%, above the bank's roughly 14% target.
