A mother and her daughter remain missing after a collision between a recreational motorboat and a Norwegian-flagged cargo ship off Sweden's western coast late on Tuesday evening. A father and his son were pulled from the water and taken to hospital with an unclear medical condition.

The alarm was raised at 22:03, though the accident is believed to have occurred roughly half an hour earlier. The collision took place northwest of Älgön, near the island of Tjörn. Search efforts have since been called off without locating the two missing passengers.

The Coast Guard has stopped a Norwegian merchant vessel linked to the incident. Police have opened a preliminary investigation into negligence in maritime traffic.
