Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held talks with Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah in Tripoli on Tuesday, discussing ways to support stability and unify state institutions as part of a two-day visit that will also take him to Benghazi in the country's east.
Fidan also met separately with Presidential Council head Mohamed al-Menfi and High Council of State officials. The talks covered political and economic ties, energy cooperation, defence industry collaboration, and efforts to hold elections, including a review of the 2019 maritime boundary agreement and potential expansion of Turkish Petroleum Corporation exploration activities.
The visit signals a shift in Ankara's approach, as Turkey maintains channels with Tripoli-based institutions while opening direct engagement with eastern leadership, following recent meetings between Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin and eastern commander Khalifa Haftar.
