Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will construct three additional advanced packaging facilities in the second phase of the Chiayi Science Park, the head of Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council announced on Saturday.
The expansion onto a roughly 90-hectare site is designed to meet surging global demand for high-performance computing chips and advanced packaging technologies. TSMC's first facility at the park entered mass production in June, with a second plant in Phase I also now operational.
When both phases are fully built out, the Chiayi Science Park is expected to generate more than NT$300 billion (US$9.35 billion) in annual production value and create over 9,000 jobs. The park forms a central component of the Taiwanese government's broader southern development strategy.
