Micron Technology will provide $500 million in strategic financing to GlobalWafers for its 300mm silicon wafer facility in Sherman, Texas, as the two companies intend to enter into a 10-year supply agreement aimed at bolstering semiconductor supply chain resilience.

The partnership is expected to strengthen U.S. semiconductor supply chain resilience and support advanced applications including artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and data centers. GlobalWafers, which operates 18 sites across nine countries, is the only silicon wafer supplier participating in the CHIPS for America Program to produce 12-inch wafers domestically.

GlobalWafers Chairwoman Hsiao-Lan Hsu said the collaboration demonstrates a commitment to supporting customers' long-term development. In related market moves, GlobalFoundries shares climbed 6% after Micron unveiled separate plans to invest up to $3 billion.
