U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Monday, within an hour of Burnham's arrival at Downing Street, and said the two leaders will meet in the not too distant future.

Trump said on Truth Social that Burnham would open North Sea oil fields, though the new prime minister has not confirmed any final decision. The leaders discussed bilateral trade, military alliance, North Sea energy, and demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Burnham invited Trump to visit Manchester for the G20 summit planned for 2027.

Burnham, commissioned by King Charles III to form a government on July 20, named John Healey as finance minister, Ed Miliband as foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper as health secretary, and Wes Streeting as defence minister. He reaffirmed his commitment to defence and security upon taking office. Trump wished Burnham good luck and pledged U.S. support.
