Medications found in Lindsay Clancy's blood were at therapeutic levels and not consistent with a suicidal overdose, a forensic toxicologist testified at her murder trial. Dr. Justin Brower told jurors that quetiapine was slightly elevated but not toxic, and that detected drugs — including mirtazapine, lamotrigine, and trazodone — were consistent with prescribed use. Clancy, diagnosed with postpartum psychosis and undiagnosed bipolar disorder, faces life without parole if convicted of killing her three children. She is paralyzed from a suicide attempt following the killings.
Witnesses painted conflicting pictures of Clancy's mental state. Her nanny described her as a wonderful mother who showed no concerning behavior, while a friend recalled Clancy saying medications caused "dark thoughts". Clancy sobbed as jurors viewed autopsy photos of her youngest child.
Patrick Clancy found his wife and children after the killings. A responding officer testified he screamed, "She killed the fucking kids." Clancy was admitted to McLean Hospital in December 2022, though her pediatrician noted no signs of postpartum issues in prior visits.
