Japanese equities suffered their steepest single-day loss since late July on Tuesday, as a global technology sell-off dragged the Nikkei 225 down 3.2% to close at 65,326.42. The broader Topix index fell 3.1% to 4,012.31, with decliners outnumbering advancers on the Nikkei by roughly four to one.
The downturn followed heavy losses on Wall Street, where the Philadelphia semiconductor index dropped 5%. Regional peers also retreated sharply, with Seoul falling 5.8% and Shanghai slipping 2.3%. In Tokyo, chip-linked and technology names bore the brunt: Furukawa Electric plunged 13.69%, Kioxia Holdings lost roughly 12.6%, and SoftBank Group declined 6.47%.
Investors are now awaiting the release of minutes from the U.S. Federal Reserve's latest policy meeting for further signals on the interest-rate outlook.
