Tanzid Hasan became the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century in Australia, striking 101 off 190 balls to propel the tourists into a commanding position on day two of the first Test in Darwin.
Bangladesh closed at 351-6, leading by 153 runs, after Tanzid's innings surpassed Hannan Sarkar's previous national record of 76 for the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi on Australian soil. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 84 to the effort.
The foundation for Bangladesh's dominance was laid by pace bowler Hasan Mahmud, who took a career-best 6-55 to dismiss Australia for 198 on the opening day. Steve Smith top-scored for the hosts with 71, having survived a review in which he believed he had edged the ball but was given not out. Bangladesh lead the two-Test series after two days of play.
