The number of confirmed measles cases linked to the Urkult folk music festival in northern Sweden has risen to 21, after 10 new infections were reported in a single day, the Public Health Agency of Sweden said on Wednesday.
The vast majority of those infected are under 18 and unvaccinated, with cases now reported across multiple regions of the country. Sweden's overall measles vaccination coverage stands at approximately 95 percent. Regional health authorities are tracing contacts to limit further transmission following the festival, which was held in Västernorrland from July 30 to August 2.
In neighbouring Norway, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health confirmed no domestic cases have been detected but advised unvaccinated individuals to watch for symptoms and seek vaccination.
