A suicide bomber killed at least 14 people and wounded 22 others outside a police station in Kabal, a town in Pakistan's Swat Valley, on Sunday evening. Eight of the dead were police officers, according to authorities.
The attacker detonated explosives after police attempted to stop and search him at the station's entrance, Swat District Police Officer Umar Khan said. The blast struck near hundreds of demonstrators who had gathered at a busy intersection to demand government action against escalating militant violence. The wounded were taken to a hospital in nearby Saidu Sharif.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack. No group has claimed responsibility. The bombing follows a surge in militant activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where authorities are battling a growing insurgency by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. More than 800 people have been killed in militant attacks across Pakistan this year.
