Spanish actor Manolo Solo, a Goya Award winner known for his roles in films by Víctor Erice and Guillermo del Toro, has died at the age of 62 from cancer, the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain confirmed on July 30, 2026.
Born in Algeciras in 1964 and raised in Seville, Solo studied education before pursuing acting and music. He won the 2017 Goya for best supporting actor for 'Tarde para la ira' and received further nominations for 'El buen patrón,' 'Cerrar los ojos' and the 2026 film 'La quinta portuguesa'. His screen credits also included 'El laberinto del fauno,' 'Celda 211' and 'La isla mínima,' and he recently portrayed General Gutiérrez Mellado in the series 'Anatomía de un instante'.
Solo was filming the series 'Las Vecinas' at the time of his death. Filmmaker Santiago Segura posted a tribute on X.
